The Daily Heller: And the Winners Are …

Posted inThe Daily Heller

I’ve long been fascinated by trophies. Maybe because I never won them. So when the opportunity to write about a first-ever exhibit was awarded to me, I jumped at the chance.

Society Awards is the maker and designer behind some of the most famous trophies, and has been led by CEO David Moritz for the last 16 years. His approach to trophy design allows brands to elevate the trophy to a work of art that extends beyond the red carpet. Currently, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the company’s first exhibition. In tandem with the annual awards season, the public can view more than 170 iconic trophies, from the limited-edition MTV Kehinde Wiley Moonperson to the Golden Globes.

This is an unprecedented viewing experience that will take trophy fans beyond the red carpet and into the artistic world of luxury awards to engage with fine art, cultural treasures and corporate masterpieces.

The installation “will share the red carpet with its visitors,” providing a glimpse at the world’s most iconic awards and an opportunity to revel in the artistic mastery and exceptional design quality. “Many of these awards are only viewed by their recipients, or through your television—but we believe these awards are more than just statues.”

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s on display through Feb. 18. You can also download the mobile app here for a virtual tour. Everyone’s a winner.
