Over the course of the last year, Michael Gillette drew more than 50 dog portraits. Today, March 24 through April 23, they are exhibited in “Year of the Dog” for the first time at Luna Rienne 3318 22nd St. San Francisco.

The idea for the show began when Gillette found a box of ancient dog greeting cards at a local Goodwill in San Francisco.

“I proceeded to customize each card in a tremendously enjoyable game of vandalism/continuation,” he says. “It was a sheer act of compulsion, so I continued by drawing my own dogs, across many breeds, hiring Electric Works to print batches of them with archival inks.”
