My friends at !Productive Arts!, the Soviet design specialists from Chicago, are in NYC this weekend at the New York Antiquarian Book Fair at the Park Avenue Armory (booth E33) with USSR in Construction, considered by many to be the most visually exciting magazine of the 20th century.

Issues were published in large format with elaborate use of photomontage, die-cuts, foldouts and gatefolds. Vanguard designers included Rodchenko, Stepanova, Lissitzky, Telingater, Heartfield, Khodasevich, Favorsky and Troshin. The best Soviet photographers contributed to the journal.

“We have available a complete run of the magazine, all 134 issues, which includes 1930 #1 (both first and second editions) and 1941 #5 (published in Russian only).” You can see more here.
