It must be fun to be Mike Perry. You think of a book idea, Princeton Architectural Press says sure, they’ll publish it, and then all of your friends, who just happen to be the best, most famous designers in the world, want to contribute. So it is with his newest project, a book on screen printing called Pulled: A Catalog of Screen Printing being released this week. “It’s a collection of contemporary illustrators and designers who use screen printing in their personal work,” Perry says. “Its not about band posters its about art.”

You get to do all sorts of fun books. How did this one come about?Similar to my other books I looked at what I was doing in my work. Screen printing has been very important to me and lots of my peers. So I reached out and got a brilliant response. Everyone in the book mailed me the prints which made for a month of getting mail extra exciting.
You also get to work with lots of talented and creative people. Who helped you out on this one?The amazing designer Emily Anderson help me design the book. And as for who’s work is featured, it’s a great list. What can the reader expect to get out of Pulled? There is definitely a how-to component, but I think what people will really get is an idea of how they can help advance this exploding medium. And how exciting it can be.
How did you pick who’s work was included in the book?Just people who’s work I have loved over the years. And they had to be willing to send me prints.
You’re having a book release party this Friday with a panel discussion. What will you be discussing?Honestly, I’m not sure. I haven’t really planned anything.
What’s the general state of screen printing in the art/design community? Thriving.
What else do you want to tell your rapt audience?I am totally in love with all of the work in the book.
