The Top 10 Graphic Design Events of 2010

I have not had time to elucidate my reasons for each of these selections so feel free to contest them. (I have left out items already included on the top 10 type events such as the Roger Excoffon book and the U&lc PDFs that could also fit here.) But here they are:

  1. Vignelli Center for Design Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology

  2. Born Modern:The Life and Design of Alvin Lustig by Steven Heller and Elaine Lustig Cohen (San Francisco: Chronicle Books, 2010)

  3. Navigating the Labyrinth: Unimark International and the New York Subway System event sponsored by AIGA/NY with Massimo Vignelli, Tom Geismar, Lance Wyman, Michael Hertz, Doris Halle, Peter Joseph, Jan Conradi, Abby Goldstein and Paul Shaw.

  5. From Hieroglyphics to Isotype: A Visual Autobiography by Otto Neurath, edited by Matthew Eve and Christopher Burke (London: Hyphen Press, 2010)

  6. The Elements of Euclid by Oliver Byrne (1847; facsimile reprint with essay)?(Cologne: Taschen Books, 2010)

  10. Who Died and Made You Boss? by James Victore (New York:?Abrams Books, 2010)

The death of leading design figures is also news but too dispiriting to include in a top 10 list. However, in 2010 the following notable graphic designers and type designers passed away. They are listed in alphabetical order.
