The Sweetest Wedding Suite Design
Designers Meredith and Drue Dixon met while working at a small branding studio.
“I gave Drue a giant 2-foot Dixon Ticonderoga pencil as a gift, and the rest is history,” Meredith says. So when their wedding was on the horizon, the pair saw no option but to design their invitation and wedding suite together.
But first, they had to say “I do” to a design direction. “We became our own worst client pretty fast,” Meredith says. “As a designer, client constraints can sometimes be difficult—but they help guide the process of the design and allow you to be creative in different ways. Having a blank slate to do anything we wanted was a little overwhelming.”
Ultimately, they drilled down on one of their many concepts and went for it—and their finished product resonated with Midwest judge Aaron Draplin. “Finally, a set of cards that actually makes you want to go to a wedding,” he says. “It’s a reminder of how design can elevate the most special days of our lives.”
From the invitation and save-the-date to the RSVP and favors, including a clever pin and patch guests could wear, the suite set the tone for the event in the best of ways. Having worked together prior to their relationship, it was natural for the two to design side-by-side, especially since their styles meld together seamlessly.
“I was able to work on [this project] with my favorite designer—and favorite person,” Drue says. “I don’t know how it could get much better than that.”
A sweet suite, indeed.
