Take my Picture
When Pope Francis took a selfie with young students in the Vatican last month, some on Twitter felt he was shirking his Papal duties. But capturing a moment in time is as magical in August at the Vatican as it was at Boulevard du Temple in Paris in 1838 when Louis Daguerre, took the image (below), which took 10 minutes for the exposure time.
Could Daguerre have fathomed that 175 years later a company named Apple would unveil a phone that could mimic the human retina with a 4 inch retina display and also be one of the most advanced ca
meras in its price range. In fact, is the iPhone 5s a phone with a camera or a camera with a phone?
According to Macworld, “The iPhone 5s camera features a new, five-element Apple-designed lens that carries a larger f/2.2 aperture, accompanied by a new sensor with a 15 percent larger active area. And, because it’s all in the pixels—and because larger pixels capture more light for better images—the pixels on this sensor measure 1.5 microns, larger than iPhone 5’s and larger than other
smartphones’, according to Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, who did the camera presentation.”
The camera iPhone also has image stabilization built in, something once reserved for higher end cameras and lenses.
With Print’s photography issue currently out, we thought we would showcase Print’s Guide to Photography, an excerpt from an earlier issue that provides great tips capturing memorable scenes and perfect shooting stock photos. Every picture tells a story and, while you can clear up some blemishes with Photoshop, taking a good first picture is important. Here’s a photo I took (below) of a restaurant in my small town before it was demolished.
Print’s Guide to Photography would have helped me do a better job with the shadows and suggest a much better angle.
