Dorothy Created a Visual Library Of Stamps That’ll Inspire You To Add Some Classics To Your Reading List

Classic literature, as with all great art, is a component of our elaborate personalities. These incredible books open our eyes to vastly new perspectives. They teach us about the perils of love, loss, and lust without having to live through the agony ourselves. And, most importantly, these classical novels make us feel part of something bigger than ourselves.

As an ode to the literary arts, Dorothy, the UK-based studio specializing in producing prints, products, and artworks sold and exhibited internationally, created a series of collectible postage stamp prints. The series consists of stamps that feature a contemporary graphic inspired by the book and the themes within.

Each of the two prints features the masterpieces. While the first print focuses on classic novels ranging from Frankenstein by Mary Shelley to The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the second print concentrates on modern classics, including Lord of the Flies by William Golding and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

Each stamp is 80cm by 60cm and is litho printed with silver foil. The individual pieces are seemingly simple designs, but the ability to understand the themes packed into the small designs is uncanny when examined further. Simplicity was essential when creating these designs, and it’s working to create a visual library.

So, even if you haven’t always enjoyed reading the classics in the past, this collection of stamps is so beautifully designed it might just inspire you to pick one up and give it the old college try.
