Editor's Note: Seymour Chwast (b. 1931), Milton Glaser (1929–2020), Edward Sorel (b. 1929) and Reynold Ruffins (b. 1930) founded Push Pin Studios in 1954. Chwast and Glaser remained partners until 1968. Milton Glaser died on June 26, at 91.

Partners can be tricky. Looming over partnerships very often is ego, jealousy and distrust. Milton and I avoided this, for which I am grateful. Milton was a giant in stature, talent and knowledge in what he wanted to do. I was a scared, shy puppy and too nervous to meet with clients. Milton lifted me up, overlooked my shortcomings and gave me confidence to see my own worth. Our collaborations with assignments and our own projects were productive and fair. Not only that, at one time he defended me from getting mugged on Park Avenue South. Can one ask for anything more from a partner?
