This issue finds safety in numbers with profiles of 40 design collectives from around the world. What does that mean exactly? We went straight to Wikipedia, one of the most successful collaborative efforts in recent memory, for a definition: “A collective is a group of people who share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project to achieve a common objective. Collectives are also characterized by attempts to share and exercise political and social power and to make decisions on a consensus-driven or egalitarian basis.” Sounds good to us.
