February 26, 2009. Last night, Droog injected some much-needed levity into the New York scene with the opening of its first freestanding store in the city, on Soho’s Greene Street. The interior was designed by Jurgen Bey (Studio Makkink & Bey), and the commemorative ceramic cups given out to partygoers were by Jan Broekstra. We shot a video of co-founder Renny Ramakers explaining the idea behind the blue foam funhouse that serves as the store’s centerpiece—turns out it’s for sale, too.
