Slated to open next month, the expansion of the 110-year-old Brooklyn Children’s Museum in Crown Heights by Rafael Viñoly Architects is wrapped in 8.1 million yellow ceramic tiles, and marked by large blocks of paint-pot color. If approved for silver LEED certification, the museum will be the first in the city to have sustainable credentials. The building’s L-shaped, two-story structure doubles the institution’s existing space to 102,000 square feet and is expected to push its annual visitor capacity from 250,000 to 400,000—or in terms of tiny feet, substantially more than a pitter-patter. rvapc.com, brooklynkids.org
