There’s a new typographic design tool quietly out for about a year now in beta form, called Glyphs. It’s a native Cocoa application for the Mac with a nearly flawless user interface. Its simplicity succeeds where FontLab’s byzantine complexity utterly fails. A few casual reports from typographers I know sound positive—it has a few notable improvements over several other apps, including diagonal guides for italic faces, and a notion for an easily-accessed global anchor to attach accents to. You can download and use the app for free for as long as it’s in beta.
