It would be so easy for The Cosby Sweater Project (a single-serving Tumblr, mais oui) to be exactly as snide and stupid as you would expect it to be. It’s a foregone cultural conclusion that the geometric sweaters of the eighties were a complete tragedy, a wild and wooly marriage of sleek Italianate geometry and good old middle-American folksiness.
But!
The Cosby Sweater Project elevates the funmaking to a higher conceptual level, creating abstract patterns based entirely upon the sweaters in screencaps. This is the finest in disposable pop hilarity combined with actual artful commentary. So ironic.
